Actress. Born Alice Elizabeth Ruyter, she was well known for her many performances on the stage, in film, and on television during a career that spanned six decades. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Pembroke College, Brown University's women's school at the time, in 1950. She married Paul Drummond in 1951 and her professional name became Alice Drummond, a name that she continued to use after their divorce in 1975. Her big break as an actress came with a three-episode appearance on the gothic soap opera "Dark Shadows" in 1967. Her later television credits included "Where the Heart Is", "Ryan's Hope", "As the World Turns", "Kate & Allie", Law & Order", "Boston Legal", "Yes, Dear", "Night Court", "Lenny", "Frannie's Turn", and "Cosby". She also appeared in various films including "Ghostbusters" (1984), "Ace Ventura : Pet Detective" (1994), "Awakenings" (1990), "To Wong Foo Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar" (1995), "Doubt" (2008), and "Furry Vengeance" (2010). In 1970 she earned a Tony nomination for featured actress in a play for the Broadway production of "The Chinese and Dr. Fish". She passed away from complications of a fall she sustained two months before.
