Professional Baseball Player. Born Ralph Joseph Caballero, he was an infielder for the Philadelphia Phillies of the National League for eight seasons (1944-1945, 1947-1952). He played baseball for Jesuit High School in New Orleans, Louisiana and was signed as an amateur free agent by the Phillies in 1944. He appeared in four games for the Phillies, at the age of 16, that season and became the youngest third baseman ever to play Major League Baseball. He was sent to the Class-A Utica Blue Sox of the Eastern League for most of the 1945 season, but he did play nine games for Phillies that year. In both 1946 and 1947 he spent most of his time in the minor leagues, but the next year in 1948, he played his first full season with the Phillies. He would go to play for them until 1953 when he went to the minor league Baltimore Orioles. He was an integral part of the 1950 National League champion "Whiz Kids" team that eventually lost to the New York Yankees in the World Series 4 games to none. After playing two more years in the minor leagues, he retired and later owned and operated an exterminating company in Louisiana, where he would live for the rest of his life.
