Professional Football Player. For six seasons (1957 to 1962), he played at the place-kicker, guard and linebacker positions in the National and Canadian Football Leagues with the Baltimore Colts and Saskatchewan Roughriders. Born Steven Murray Myhra, he attended Wahpeton High School in North Dakota and played collegiate football at the University of Minnesota, followed by the University of North Dakota. Selected by the Baltimore Colts during the 12 round of the 1956 NFL Draft, he totaled 62 career regular season games. Myhra will be remembered for kicking the tying field goal (a 20-yard field goal) with seven seconds left in regulation during the 1958 NFL Title Game against the New York Giants. The Colts went on to win the contest in overtime which became know as "The Greatest Game Ever Played." He extended his professional football career by one season with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL. After retiring from football, he founded a sporting goods store and additionally worked in the insurance industry. He suffered a fatal heart attack.
