John W. McFarland, 31, Jewell Village, an employee of Stadler Packing Company and father of five children, was found dead in his wrecked car at 2:20 o'clock Sunday morning at McKinley Avenue and Oak Street. The car struck a tree.
Mr. McFarland's wrecked 1950 Pontiac was discovered by a Merchant Policeman while on patrol.
Police said no one apparently heard the crash. They had no report of an accident or loud sounds and was not known how long the car was there before noticed by the officer.
Rites will be held at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning at St. Bartholomew's Roman Catholic Church. Burial will be made at Garland Brook Cemetery. Rosary will be read at the Barkes and Inlow Funeral Home.
Mr. McFarland was a veteran of World War II and was a member of St. Barholomew's Roman Catholic Church and Eagles Lodge.
He was born at Louisville, Feb. 14, 1928, to James and Blanche Martin McFarland. Mr. McFarland was married to Miss Jessie Tate on Nov. 26, 1948.
Survivors are the wife; his father, James McFarland of Louisville; two sons, John Dennis, 6, and Terry Wayne, 16 months; three daughters, Blanche Marie, 10, Barbara Ann, 9, and Sherrie Jane, 4; a brother, James McFarland of Louisville, and a sister, Mrs. Frank Curran of Columbus, Ohio.
