LEROY -- The funeral for Thomas Carroll Byrd will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Bethany Bible Church in LeRoy, with the Rev. Chris Paulson officiating. Burial will be in LeRoy Cemetery.
Mr. Byrd, 88, of LeRoy, died Wednesday (Jan. 17, 2007) at the Patty Elwood Center in Cresco, Iowa.
Thomas Carroll Byrd was born Aug. 16, 1918, in Mitchell County, Iowa. He attended country schools and graduated from McIntire (Iowa) High School in 1936. On March 9, 1941, he married Hila Lillian Hansen at the LeRoy Lutheran Church. They farmed south of LeRoy until 1966, when he went to work at the LeRoy Lumber Yard. He worked there until he became a self-employed carpenter. He continued in carpentry until his retirement in 1984.
Survivors include two daughters, Sharon (Gary) Johnson and Mary Ellen (Walter) Stevens, both of Branson, Mo.; a son, Mark (Julie) of LeRoy; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ernest (Jan) of Waterloo, Iowa; and a sister, Ernest's twin, Elaine Hansen of Woodbine, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his wife, a granddaughter, a brother and a sister.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Hindt Funeral Home in LeRoy, and an hour before the service Saturday at the church.
