YAKIMA - Elsie Prokop was born in Richland, Montana on Feb. 23, 1927 to Paul and Elsie Leutsch as the eighth of ten children. The family moved to Coeur D' Alene, Idaho where she spent much of her growing up years. During WWII she moved with a sister to Seattle and graduated from High School there. In 1946 Elsie moved to Yakima and worked as a secretary for a farm equipment dealership where she met her husband Don Prokop. They were together for 44 years until his death in 1991. While she started her working life as a secretary, she spent the vast majority of her career as a floral designer for the Blossom Shop in Yakima. People, flowers, dancing, music and travel were among her favorite things. New York City and New Zealand were two highlights of her many travels.
Elsie enjoyed politics and was a life long Democrat who worked for the party along with her husband all through the 1960's. They were active in the Lions Club of Union Gap and traveled to various national conventions.
She is survived by one son, James E. Prokop and his wife, Cheryl of Moses Lake, Washington; three sisters, Helen Patton of Yakima, Adeline Wilson of Hayden Lake, Idaho, and Francis Nugent, of Springfield, Oregon; three step grandsons and four great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2007 from 3pm to 7pm at Shaw and Sons Funeral Directors. The funeral service will be on Friday, January 26, 2007 at 10am also at Shaw and Sons Funeral Directors. Concluding burial will be at Terrace Heights Memorial Park.
