Elizabeth, known as Lizzie, was from Enniscorthy, County Wexford, Ireland. She had been living in Philadelphia for awhile when she was called back home to care for her widowered father Martin during his final illness. On her way back to America, headed for Chicago, she perished on the Titanic at age twenty-six. At first her family and friends believed she were among the saved, since she had told them she had bought a second-class ticket, but as it turned out she had been in third-class to save some extra money. Her cousin Robert Mernagh, whom she had been travelling with, was also lost. There is a memorial inscription to her on her family's tombstone.
