It is told, Edwin Purvis was a serious-minded young man, a bookkeeper, married Alda E. Merritt October 15, 1890. Due to their deteriorating financial condition, they moved to Indian Territory Oklahoma in 1901 by covered wagon in a quest for free land. Edwin suffered from typhoid fever and was unable to work for some time. He worked in farming, running a hotel, and after twenty four years of unblissful marriage, he left his family in Hugo, Choctaw, Oklahoma and went to Olathe, Kansas to work for the railroad. At fifty years of age he died from a self-inflicted gunshot through the heart. Interment was October 12, 1915 Olathe Memorial Cemetery.
