Robert was the son of Richard Swan & Anna Spofford, who married February 24, 1622 in South Cave, Yorkshire, England per marriage record. Robert came to Boston with his father by 1638, thence to Rowley, MA. Robert lived a short time in Andover, but by 1650 had settled in Haverhill. He lived in that part of Haverhill which later became Methuen, and family records of many of Robert's descendants are recorded there. Robert's birth year is recorded as 1623, 1625 or 1627, depending on the source. The inscription that was once legible stated he died in his 74th year of his age, which means he was 73, working on his 74th year; if inscription is correct, it would make 1623 the correct year.
