Actor. Born in Alabama, Bill Cartledge is best known for playing the roles of jockeys or bellhops. His best known role is that of George Woolf in the 1949 film, "The Story Of Seabiscuit." Cartledge's other films include, "Splendor" (1947), "Speed To Burn" (1938), "Newsboys' Home" (1938), "Fast And Furious" (1939), "I Take This Woman" (1940), "Junior G-Men" (1940), "Playmates" (1941), "Tarzan's New York Adventure" (1942), "The Scarlet Claw" (1944), "Undercurrent" (1945), "Unfaithfully Yours" (1948), "Fighting Fools" (1949), "The Great Dan Patch" (1949), "Dark city" (1950), "The Lemon Drop Kid" (1951), "Crazy Over Horses" (1951), "Escape To Burma" (1955), and the comedy, "The Court Jester" (1955). Cartledge also appeared in the 1950s television series, "The Public Defender", and was a stuntman for John Wayne's film, "The Searchers" (1956). (bio by: K)
