America Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. An Irish immigrant, he was issued the award on November 25, 1869 for his actions as a private while serving with Company G, 14th Infantry, US Army, in a skirmish with Confederate forces on October 1, 1864. His Medal of Honor citation reads: "For gallantry in action on 1 October 1864, while serving with Company G, 14th U.S. Infantry, in action at Chapel House Farm, Virginia."
