Lulu Ohmberger , 77, of Broken Bow, formerly of Sargent, died March 6, 2007, at the Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow. Lulu was born July 20, 1929, on the family farm near Walworth to Clare and Agnes Wolf Mapel. She grew up on the farm attending Gates grade school and graduated from Sargent High School. On June 20, 1948, she was united in marriage to LeRoy Matousek of Sargent in the Walworth Church. They had a son. The family resided in the Sargent area, where Lu helped LeRoy with his well drilling business. She also taught school at the Lillian County School, worked in a restaurant and later became a nurse for Dr. Westbrook for many years. Lu taught Sunday school for many years. After LeRoy passed away in 2001, Lu continued to live in Sargent. She was a member of the Sargent Methodist Church, Rebeka Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars and loved to play cards. On May 29, 2004, she was united in marriage to Virgil Bud Ohmberger of Broken Bow. They had two wonderful years before finding out Lu had lung cancer. Survivors include her son, Kent (Lisa) Matousek and three grandchildren of Holdrege; a brother, Howard (Lois) Mapel of York; a sister-in-law, Besty Mapel; three step-children, Fred (Sharon) Ohmberger , Millicent (Rick) Orvis and Jim (Pat) Ohmberger . She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Verna Harris and Mary Harrold; and two brothers, Custer and Harley Mapel. Memorials are suggested to the Sargent Fire Department or the Custer County Hospice. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Rhoad Funeral Home in Sargent with the Rev. Vonnie Phillips officiating. Burial will be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Sargent. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
