Philip Kem Powers, 18, Clay City youth who was a student at Olney Central College, was found dead by his mother at the family home in Clay City. He is believed to have died from self inflicted wounds with a high powered rifle.

A note was left which was discovered by his mother. The contents were not revealed. A coroner’s inquest will be held at a later date by the Clay County Coroner.

The young man graduated from Clay City Community high school in 1970 and was enrolled as a freshman at Olney Central college.

Funeral rites will be held in the Clay City Chapel of the Easley Funeral Home with interment in Clay City Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church at Clay City.

The deceased is survived by his mother, Mrs. Mae Powers of Clay City, a brother, Barton Powers of Effingham, and two sisters, Mrs. Darrel (Marlene Bullard of Effingham, and Mrs.
Darrel (Melba) Britton of Clay City.

His father preceded him in death.
