Daughter of Walter and Rose (nee Polewska) Zydel. Both born in Poland. Lillian, born in Buffalo, NY, married Herbert G. Engelhardt on Aug. 1, 1940. They lived in Buffalo until 1946 when they moved to Orchard Park, NY. Mother of Herbert K. (Sharon Baum) Engelhardt, Michael W. (Lynn Mitis) Engelhardt and Ruth A. (Edward) Madar; grandmother to: Douglas Engelhardt, Jason Engelhardt, Scott Madar, Brandon Madar and Lori Engelhardt Duncan; great-grandmother to: James, Collin, Tristin, Brenden Engelhardt; Corey and Ryan Madar and Alex Duncan. Sister of Anthony (Helen) Zydel, Lucy (George) Downs, Thaddeus (Dolores) Zydel and Casey (Gloria) Zydel.

Lillian had a generous heart and a twinkle in her beautiful light blue eyes. As long as you didn't cross her, you had a friend for life. She never turned any one away, whether it be man or beast, young or old.

She presented herself as a very weak person but, in reality, she was very strong. In 1964 she was involved in a very serious car accident with her husband. She was critically injured with very little chance of surviving. After passing her critical time, the doctors wanted to amputate her leg because it was so mangled. When she refused, she was told that she would never walk again. Against all odds, a very special surgeon, six months in the hospital, six more months of being house bound other then to go to therapy, she not only survived but she walked again without the aid of any walking device. She proved what she was really made of. Each day of my life, I'll miss my mother.
