US Congressman. Born in Bonaparte, Iowa, he graduated from Iowa State University in 1888, from its law department in 1890, was admitted to the bar in 1890 and commenced to practice law in Waterloo, Iowa. He was vice president of the Pioneer National Bank and regent of the State University of Iowa, (1896-1909). In 1909, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-first and Sixty-second Congresses, serving until 1913. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law in Waterloo, Iowa. He was a chairman of the Republican State conventions (1899, 1916) and a delegate at large to the Republican National Convention in 1920. He died in Waterloo, Iowa, at age 64.
