Franklin passed away on Christmas Day in a Salt Lake nursing home after a long illness. He was 79 years old. His residence at the time of his death was 1328 South Emigration Street (1728-East). Manager of Salt Lake Knit on Main Street for several years before retiring in 1959, Mr Smith began his 58 year career with the firm as a service boy in 1959. He attended the Salt Lake LDS Business College and was a member of the Salt Lake Exchange Club and the Sons Of Utah Pioneers. Franklin was a member of the Colonial Hills Ward and had served a mission to England from 1908-1910. He was the Son of LDS Church president Joseph Fielding Smith S.R. and Sarah Ellen Richards. He married Ella Elise Olsen on August 18, 1913 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were later divorced. He also married Naoma Hollingworth on April 17, 1929. The marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.
Franklin was a Grandson of Willard Richards and Hyrum Smith.
Franklin was also a brother to LDS Church president Joseph Fielding Smith J.R. Beloved Father of Five Children.
Funeral Services were held on Thursday December 28, 1967 at Noon in the Colonial Hills First Ward Chapel at 1455 South 17th East. A Viewing was held on Wednesday evening from 6-8 P.M. at the Larkin Mortuary at 260 East South Temple Street.
Graveside Services followed where he was buried in the Smith Family Plot.
Naoma died on December 10, 1996.
