Dr. Benjamin Franklin Braselton was the third son and fourth child of John Amos and Sophia Matilda Howell Braselton. He attended and graduated from the Atlanta Medical College ( which was eventually merged into Emory) in 1879. He first practiced in the Jackson County, Pendergrass area but removed to Rome, Floyd County, Ga. and married Ada Boyd (the daughter of Dr. W.H. Boyd also an earlier Atl. Med. School Grad.) on November 12, 1884. Together they had four children, three girls, and a boy. Only the boy Boyd passed on any children. They moved to Weatherford, Tx. with other Braselton brothers in the 1908 time frame where he spent 12 years in practice and moved back to Rome about 1920 after his health failed. He passed away on March 4th, 1921 at the age of 66. It was during his lifetime that the perceived connection of the Braselton family to George Washington and their potential inheritance due to a mistaken land sale by congress came to light.
