Author, Essayist. Son of writer Jorge Guillén, Claudio was forced into exile with his family after the Spanish Civil War. He moved to the United States, where he studied at Williams College. After fighting against the fascism with Free French forces during World War II he returned to the US, where he was a Professor in the Universities of San Diego, Princeton, and Harvard, from 1965 to 1985. In 1982, he returned to Spain, where he worked at the University of Barcelona and was the President of the Foundation Generation of 1927, a prestigious literary group of which his father was an outstanding member. In 2002, Guillén was elected member of the Royal Spanish Academy. His many works include "Europa, Ciencia e Inconsciencia," El Sol de los Desterrados: Literatura y Exilio," "The Challenge of Comparative Literature" and "Desde el Asombro. Sobre los Albertis. Tres Poemas de Lorca."
