Second and Fourth Bishop of Victoria (1873-1878, 1885-1886); Second Archbishop of Portland-Oregon City (1879-1885). Seghers, sometimes known as "Apostle of Alaska," accepted his re-posting to Victoria in order to continue his evangelization in the North. On this last Alaskan excursion he was shot to death by a paranoid madman in his entourage.
