The Stafford Courier printed an obituary for Christopher Columbus Wilson on February 17, 1922.

Obituary of C. C. Wilson

Christopher C. Wilson was born February 17, 1845 in Hamilton county, Illinois. His mother died when he was quite young and he was raised by his foster parents, until he went to Missouri, where he lived with a half brother for some time.

He married Miss Tressa Jane Potter while still living in Missouri and they later moved to Iowa, later returning to Missouri, where all their children were born.

He moved with his family to Kansas in 1874 and settled on a homestead west of Stafford where they lived twenty-two years. After their children were all grown they moved into Stafford , where they lived twenty-four years, where Mr. and Mrs. Wilson both passed away.

Mr. Wilson was converted at the age of eighteen and joined the M. E. church and was a member of that church at the time of his death.

His wife preceded him in death, December 16, 1921. Four children -- Rachel, Jennie Hargett, Elbro and William also preceded their parents in death.

He had three brothers who passed on before him.

A badge belonging to Mr. Wilson, showing his service during the Civil War, reads as follows: "Chris C. Wilson, Stafford, Kansas, Co. A. 83rd, Ill Inf. and Co. E. 61st., Ill. V. Inf."

He leaves two daughters, Martha E. Burger of Macksville, Kansas, Mary Hicks of San Francisco, California, two sons, Eli C. Wilson of Topeka, Kansas and Alfred S. Wilson of Winfield, Kansas, nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a sister who lives at Pittsburg, Kansas, besides other relatives and a host of friends to mourn his loss. All the children except one, were with him when he passed away.

He died at the family home on West Broadway February 15, 1922, at the age of 77 years. Funeral services were at the home Thursday February 16th, at 1:30, conducted by Rev. Guy E. Spear, his pastor. The pallbearers were James Figgers, W. S. Dellinger, Edward Slade, C. F. Magill, W. R. Deniston and Owen Sanford. Burial was in the Stafford cemetery beside his wife.

FAMILY NOTE: The obituary refers to four children preceding their father in death. Rachel Jane was also known as "Jennie" so this is the same person which would make three children preceding him in death. His wife's obituary (printed December 22, 1921) refers to three children preceding her in death, Rachel, William and Elbro. They had a total of seven children and four are listed as survivors.

The three brothers who preceded him would be his twin brothers, Alfred and Albro Wilson and an older half brother, William Alonzo Wilson.
