US Congressman, Judge. After serving as a Major with the Ohio Volunteer Militia in the War of 1812, he became a proprietor of a mercantile business. He was a founding member of Marion, Ohio and served as the Marion County Clerk of Courts and the County Recorder. Elected as a Democrat to represent Ohio's 11th District in the United States House of Representatives, he served from 1851 to 1853. He was not a candidate for reelection in 1852, and became a member of the Ohio Legislature. He was appointed as a probate judge for Marion County from 1866 until his death in 1869. A park in Marion is named for him.
