US Congressman. He was a successful paper manufacturer in New Hampshire when he moved to Lawrence, Massachusetts and continued in that business in 1852. In 1869, he was a member of the State House of Representatives and a delegate to the Republican National Conventions in 1868 and 1876. In 1879, he was elected as a Republican to the Forty-sixth and the next two succeeding Congresses, serving until 1885. After leaving Congress, he resumed the manufacture of paper until his death.
