Violet Crawford died in Willamette Valley Medical Center in McMinnville on Tuesday, June 14, 2005. She was 80.

Born in Mayberry, Neb., on Jan. 18, 1925, she was the daughter of George Francis and Nellie (Gordon) Mather. She moved to Dayton in 1938, at the age of 13.

She married Ralph Crawford on Nov. 8, 1968. She moved to Lafayette in 1975 and McMinnville in 1985. She was a member of Valley Christian Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Catherine (Crawford) Johnson of McMinnville; a stepdaughter, Betty Luite of Eureka, Calif.; a brother, Francis Mather of McMinnville; a sister, Nellie Wise of Newberg; three grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1988 and by sister Velda Mathieson.
