From The Dillon Herald, January 30, 1936:

Death Claims Mrs. Polly Ann Bethea Huggins

The sudden passing of Mrs. Polly Ann Bethea Huggins Saturday afternoon came as a distinct shock to many relatives and friends throughout the county.

Mrs. Huggins was apparently in perfect health when she left that afternoon on the Seaboard train to visit her daughter and son, Mrs. Shelby Williamson and W. T. Huggins, Jr., at Little Rock. After her arrival there she went into a store to make a purchase and later collapsed in front of the old Schafer building, death following immediately from heart failure.

Mrs. Huggins was the daughter of John and Druzilla Jackson Bethea and was born 55 years ago at Little Rock. She was a woman of splendid Christian character and much loved for her charitable deeds.

Funeral services were conducted at the Little Rock Baptist Church Sunday afternoon at 3:30 by the pastor, Rev. J. A. Langley. Interment followed at the church cemetery. The many beautiful floral tributes attested to the high esteem in which she was held.

The active pallbearers were her nephews, Arthur Bethea, Liston Bethea, Thad Bethea, Robert Bethea, John Bethea, and Chesley Bethea. Honorary: W. F. Stanton, A. L. Wallace, S. F. Bailey, Monroe Proctor, Joe Andrews, Owen Wallace, J. D. Manning, and Senator J. W. Hamer.

The surviving relatives of Mrs. Huggins are the following children: Mrs. Jack Harris, Miss Blanche Huggins, Miss Bliss Huggins, and Jimmie Huggins, Dillon; Mrs. Shelby Williamson, Mrs. Neill Carter, Lonnie Huggins, W. T. Huggins, Little Rock; Mrs. Omar Branch of Oakland; one sister, Miss Martha Bethea, Fayetteville; four brothers, Ransome Bethea, Minturn; Herschell and Wylie Bethea, Little Rock; and Rufus Bethea, Fayetteville.
