His experiences covering international conflicts were reflected in such books as "The Emperor," about the decline of Haile Selassie's regime in Ethiopia, "Shah of Shahs," "Imperium," and "Travels with Herodotus." Kapuscinski was frequently mentioned as a favorite to win the Nobel Prize in literature, but it was never awarded to him.
