Redus P. Barker, 81, of Athens, died Friday at his home.


The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Steve Klein officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery.


Mr. Barker was a member of Oakland Church of Christ and was a former director of the Limestone County Cooperative.


Survivors include his wife, Ruby Pauline (Ball) Barker; six daughters, Judy Gail Whitt, Barbara Christopher and Jo Ann Carter, all of Elkmont, Pauline Baker, Betty Faye Bolton and Peggy Sue Mitchell, all of Athens; a son, Phillip Michael Barker of Athens; four sisters, Sallie Hess of Decatur, Bessie Bohorfoush of Birmingham and Ruth Shelton and Mable Garrett Cox, both of Athens; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Jane "Tootie" Barker and one son, James Oscar Barker.


Redus was the son of James Samuel Washington Barker and Mattie Avery (Morris) Barker.


Redus and Ruby were married October 29, 1932, Athens, Limestone Co, AL.
