He was born in Columbus, Ohio, July 21, 1893 and had lived in Akron since 1919. A graduate of the Milwaukee School of Engineering, he retired from the Electrical Department at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company after 36 years of service. Mr. Balo was a veteran of World War I, having served in France with the 101st Field Signal Battalion, 26th (Yankee) Division. Wounded and gassed, he was twice cited for gallantry, and earned the French Croix de Guerre, the Purple Heart, the Victory Medal with six campaign bars, and the General Pershing Certificate of Commendation. Mr. Balo belonged to the Oak Hill United Presbyterian Church. He was a 64-year charter member of the Akron Post No. 209 American Legion and a life member; he was also a 60-year life member of Newton Lodge No. 249 F&AM at Raymond, Ohio.
