Came to Jefferson County Ia. in 1837. He built the first flouring mill in that part of Iowa at Red Rock. He was also in the mercantile business, having a general store in Red Rock. He went into the freighting business, having large trains hauling goods overland to the Montana Mines. He went to Moscow, Idaho in 1888, where he died 18 May 1894.
