Brother Robert Lloyd "Bob" Phillips, 80, Robinson, formerly of Willow Hill, died about 8:21 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 1996, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, following a brief illness. (It was said he was bitten on the nose by some unknown insect) Born Feb. 28, 1916 in Jasper County, he was the son of Charles Phillips and Lillis Rideout. He was licensed to preach the gospel in August 1952, and was ordained April 22, 1956. He served as bi-vocational pastor of the 13 churches and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Oblong. He also worked as the manager of the meat market at the Oblong IGA for over 30 years. He was a member of Jail Ministry at Robinson Jail. He married Roberta Maxwell on Nov. 25, 1938, who survives. Also surviving are a son and daughter-in-law Larry and Becky Phillips, Robinson; a brother and sister-in-law, Orville and Virginia Phillips, Hunt City; a sister, Mary Baughman, Springfield; two grandchildren, Jennifer Phillips, Charleston, and Jason Phillips, Champaign; four nephews; and a niece. Preceding him in death were his parents. The funeral is 10a.m. Tuesday, June 25, at the First Baptist Church, Oblong, with Bro. Ron Klaus and Bro. Don Russell officiating. Burial is in Mound Cemetery, rural Jasper County. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church, Oblong. Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Oblong First Baptist Church with envelopes available at the funeral home.
