Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served in the Civil War as a Private in Company B, 11th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at the Battle of Chancellorsville, Virginia, on May 3, 1863. His citation reads "Remained in the rifle pits after the others had retreated, firing constantly, and contesting the ground step by step". His Medal was issued on May 6, 1892.
