Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served in the Civil War as a Private in Company C, 1st New York Light Artillery. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at the Battle of White Oak Swamp, Virginia, on June 30, 1862, and at the Battle of Malvern Hill, Virginia, on July 1, 1862. His citation reads simply "Continued to fight after being severely wounded".
