Bob, age 80, passed away at Mount Carmel Regional Medical Center in Pittsburg after a battle with cancer. He was the son of Laben and Ellen (Olson) Johnson. He served in the US Navy and graduated from Kansas State University in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He was a member of the K-State basketball team in the 1948 NCAA Final Four and was inducted into the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1986, Pittsburg State University Sports Hall of Fame in September 2006, and NAIA Hall of Fame in March 2007. He married Kathleen Currie on February 6, 1949. Surviving are his children, Chris Johnson, Eric Johnson, Ellen Wamser, Joni Jones, Jerilyn Houghton, and Russell Johnson, and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and his sisters, Doris Lavigne, Margaret Moffit, and Kay Julian. A memorial service was held at at First United Methodist Church of Pittsburg. Private burial was in Carnahan-Garrison Cemetery north of Manhattan.
