Stewart M THURMAN was born in Grover the son of Bp. Ray S THURMAN and Lucy Luvilla McCOMBS the third child of eleven. He grew up in Grover working with his parents and family members on the home ranch. He attended school in Star Valley then went on to the University of Wyoming on a Union Pacific Scholarship.
He married Adell Humpherys on May 14 1937 in the Logan LDS Temple. He owned and operated a dairy farm and ranch in grover for 45 years, taking great pride in working the soil and producing good crops.
Stewart served on the Board of Directors of the Star Valley Swiss Cheese Company and as a director on the Grover-Afton North Canal Company.
He was active in the LDS Chruch serving as Ward Clerk under Bp. Jay L. Hepworth Superintendent in the Sunday School, Stake M Men leader, Grover Ward High Priest Quoroum Leader and other positions in the ward.
On October 26, 1969 he was sustained as bishop of the Grover Ward by Pres. Norville Fluckiger and was ordained and set apart by Gordon B Hinckley on November 15 1969. He served as bishop a little over six years. At the time of his death he was a Home Teacher.
