Mrs Mary E Cornwell, mother of Wm B and John J Cornwell, died at the home of the latter in Romney, Tuesday afternoon, April 25th. Though she had been ill for two weeks, at first very ill, she had apparently improved somewhat, and the end came suddenly and quite unexpectedly.
Deceased was a daughter of John Taylor, was born in 1833, and would, therefore, have been 89 years old had she lived until her next birthday, Oct 18th. Her mother having died when she was quite young she was raised by Jesse Monroe, her grandfather, who lived in Hampshire county. In 1864 she was married to Jacob H Cornwell, a native of Fauquier county, Va. To this union was born four sons and one daughter, the two mentioned being the only ones now living.
During the time Governor Cornwell was in Charleston his mother spent much of her time with him. She was an exceptionally fine old lady.
