❤ Beloved Aunt ❤

"I am still learning." ~ Michelangelo, Italian Renaissance Sculptor ~ One of Aunt Willie's favorite quotes

Aunt Willie was born and reared in a large family filled with love of one another and the pursuit of higher education. All her siblings had taught school at one point in their lives, with the exception of her baby brother who tragically died at the age of nine as the result of a freak accident.
She received her BA from Louisiana Polytechnic Institute (now Louisiana Tech University) in Ruston, Louisiana; attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Tulane University and Loyola University in New Orleans, Louisiana with a Classics Degree; earned a Master Degree, English Minor, at Evanston, Illinois; PhD from the University of Maryland and studied and taught at Cambridge University in England. She retired after fifty years from the University of Illinois as a professor of literature, then returned to her native Louisiana, settling in Alexandria, teaching one year at Louisiana College and two years at LSU-Alexandria.
She was a tiny, vivacious lady totally adored through the years of students. Years after she officially retired from the University of Illinois, she would continuously receive letters and cards from former students that she had taught and had later taught their children and grandchildren.
Along with her beloved husband of fifty-one years, Percy, she was a devout Methodist. Uncle Percy predeaceased her by eleven years. She passed away at the age of ninety after a brief illness and was cremated and buried in the Stallings mausoleum in Grayson. She is deeply loved and missed. ❤

Many thanks to Ron Manley for the transfer of Aunt Willie's memorial to me. Thank you!
