Mabel Brown, 99, daughter of William and Lucy Ellen Green Mayfield, was born Nov. 7, 1907. She died June 18, 2007, at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston.

She married Leo Shetler of Neodesha, Kan. They had one son.

In 1927, she married Virgil Brown. They had eight children.

The Brown family moved from a farm near Eunice to Houston in the '50s. They worked at Texas County Memorial Hospital and later owned and operated Brown Rest Home, caring for the elderly.

Mrs. Brown was a member of the First Christian Church in Houston.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 19 siblings, six sons, Leo Harold Shetler, Paul Clarence Brown, Herschel Herbert Brown, twins - Darrell and Ferrell Brown and Larry Brown Sr.; and one daughter, Helen Loughridge.
Surviving are two daughters, Doris "Shelley" Cornell and Shirley Holbrook of Houston; two stepsons, Howell Brown of Raleigh, N.C., and Roy Brown of Bentonville, Ark.; 21 grandchildren and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.

Services were June 20 at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Jeff Moore officiating. Burial was in the Allen Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Allen Cemetery.
