Jacob Shoup, born May 9, 1780 IN Huntington, PA., was married there May 25, 1802 to Sarah Downing, who was born Aug 13, 1782, in the same County. They moved to Pickaway County, Ohio, where they had sixteen children. each one of whom lived to be twenty-six years of age and over. The family moved to Sangamon Co., Ill, arriving in what is now Ball Township in the Autumn of 1831. It was then called Cotton Hill Precinct.
Bio then goes on to list all of their sixteen children and there spouses and children
from the "1876 History of Sangamon County, Illinois"
