Richard Charles Valcovic of Needham died Wednesday, May 7, 2003, at the Franklin Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Home in Franklin. He was 86.

Born in Johnstown, N.Y., he was the son of the late Helen and Lorenc Valachovic.

Following his graduation from Johnstown High School, Mr. Valcovic went on to study accounting at Bentley College. Subsequently, he spent a career in sales, working for the Union Paste Co. of Hyde Park.

He was active in community theater, acting in many plays with various groups including the Footlight Club in Jamaica Plain. In recent years, Mr. Valcovic was a volunteer at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital - Needham Campus. He leaves his former wife, Eleanor Jones Valcovic; his sister, Julia Henry of Johnstown, N.Y.; five children, Dorothy Howe of Hamburg, N.Y., Lawrence Valcovic of Annapolis, Md., and David Valcovic, Donald Valcovic and Clark Valcovic, all of Massachusetts; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Friends and family are invited to a gathering in Mr. Valcovic's memory Sunday, June 15, 2 to 6 p.m., at the Needham VFW, 20 Junction St.

Memorial donations may be made to Beth Israel Deaconess - Needham Campus Annual Fund, 148 Chestnut St., Needham, MA 02192.
