Lieutenant Erastus W. Jewett B. April 1st, 1839 Swanton, Franklin, Vermont. d. Feb. 20, 1906. He was the son of Eleazer Jeweitt and Dorothy Abel (buried St. Albans Bay Cemetery). He married Oct. 28, 1863 1) Fannie Brigham. D. Oct. 5, 1882. He married Nov. 2nd , 1897, 2) Edna Clarke Lawerence, b.1853 d. 1935. She was the daughter of Chester F. Lawerence and Pauline Mason.

"He was a soldier in the Civil War; was mustered into the service June 14, 1862, as 2nd Lieutenant of Co. A, 9th Vermont Volunteers, and was promoted to 1st Lieutenant May 24, 1863; resigned Nov. 21, 1864. He was at the surrender of Harper's Ferry, was paroled and did garrison duty at Chicago, Yorktown, Portsmouth, Va., and Newbern, N.C. He, by long and persistant resistance and the burning of bridges, kept a superior force of the enemy at a distance and thus covered the retreat of the garrison from Newport Barracks, N.C. , Feb. 2, 1864. For this he received the medal of honor from the United States Government.

Mr. Jewett was the Commander of the G.A.R. for the District of Vermont. "
