Robert is the son of George W. & Sarah Fox Brewer. He was married twice: 1. Mary Brewer, January 15, 1843 in Perryville, Perry County, Missouri [daughter of John & Ann Hagan Brewer]; 2. Mary Elizabeth Higgs [12-2-1841/5-12-1907], October 2, 1866 in Perryville, Perry County, Missouri [daughter of James & Elizabeth Head Higgs].

He served in the Civil war as Captain of CO B, 4th MO REGT and was commissioned Colonel of the 64th REGT of Enrolled Missouri Militia.
