Sports Reporter. After working as a crime reporter for local newspapers he came to Radio Denmark in 1935. His first major assignment was reporting from the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936, and from then on he was a "living legend" on radio and later on on TV. His frequent exclamation "Nu! (Now!) when the athletes crossed the finishing line made the listeners give him the middle name Nu. The sports transmissions were his main occupation, but he took time off to edit and narrate the weekly film journals shown in the cinemas and to interview celebrities visiting Denmark, from Field Marshal Montgomery to Laurel and Hardy. He covered nine Olympic Summer Games from 1936 to 1976 and was awarded a medal by the International Olympic Committee. The Queen of Denmark made him a Knight of Dannebrog. A square close to the national stadium in Copenhagen has been named after him and adorned with his bust.
