Athe was the youngest of 11 children born to Heber Jesse and Clarissa Amanda Bowers Meeks. He was born Oct 28, 1911 in Kanab, UT. When he was nine years old, he went on his first round-up, herding cattle from the Arizona strip to the railroad at Marysvale. He attended schools in Kanab (one year in Salt Lake City while his father was a senator) and in 1932 he attended Dixie College, at which time he met and courted his wife, Marie. On March 15, 1933 he married Marie Cox in the St. George LDS Temple. He spent his adult life working at various occupations and later in sales. He worked for the State Department of Agriculture in Salt Lake City and at checking stations in Santa Clara and south of Kanab. In St. George he was the first secretary of the St. George Chamber of Commerce; also he worked at the Arrowhead Hotel and at Brackens he sold Kaiser and Fraiser automobiles. In Salt Lake City he worked for the Office of Defense transportation, Prince Block Co., Interpace Brick Company, and ZCMI Drug Department (over the Southern Utah and Nevada area); in Houston, TX he worked at Parker Brothers and Caston Brick. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, holding various positions during his lifetime. He was active in genealogy and a temple worker at the Jordan River Temple. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, January 2, 2002 at 10 A.M. in the Valley 3rd Ward Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located at 2850 West 3590 South in West Valley City. Services were held under the direction of Bishop Michael Peterson. Friends attended a Viewing on Tuesday Evening from 5-7 P.M. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and on Wednesday at the Church from 9:00-9:40 A.M. Prior To Services.
Athe was brought home to Saint George following the Services to be laid to rest.
Graveside Services were held on Thursday, January 3, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. in the Saint George City Cemetery in Saint George, Utah with the Dedicatory Prayer of the Grave being offered by Kent Cox Meeks, His Son.
