Mary Jane Hurst, 89, formerly of Bexley Ave., died on Tuesday morning, August 7, 2007, at the Kingston Residence.

Jane was born in Marion County in 1918, the daughter of the late Lowell and Blanche Ulsh. She was a graduate of Caledonia High School and the Marion Business College. On November 20, 1938, she married Bethel "Bud" Hurst. Together they established Hurst's Florist which was in business for over 25 years on Delaware Avenue. They later purchased Abbott & Co., a wiring harness business in Prospect. While Bud ran that business, Jane continued to manage the flower shop.

After retiring, they spent their winters in Pompano Beach and Crescent City, Florida. After Bud's death on Feb. 28, 1987, Jane continued to alternate between their Marion and Florida homes.

Jane was a very talented and beautiful person whose life revolved around her family and love of flowers and sewing. She was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church and the Palace Cultural Arts Association. She was a member of Altrusa for over 50 years.

She will be missed by her two daughters: Pattye (Chuck) Winn of McCormick, SC, and Elaine (Larry) Merchant of Marion; four grandsons: Chris (Kami) Winn of Marion, Craig (Gayle) Winn of Aurora, IL, Sean (Anne) Merchant of Hudson, OH, and Kyle (Aracely) Merchant of LaCanada, CA; six great-grandchildren: Sydney, Cassidy, Parker, Emma, Ryan and Jack Winn; and by a brother: Robert Ulsh, of Caledonia.
