Charles of Anjou
Birth: Mar., 1226
Death: Jan. 7, 1285

French Royalty. Youngest son of King Louis VIII and Blanche de Castile. He was Count of Anjou and Maine, King of Naples and Sicily and King of Albania. During his life he had to crush several revolts in his territories and was feared for his brutality. After he bought the claims of Maria of Antioch-Lusignan on the Kingdom of Jerusalem he was crowned King in 1277. He lost Sicily to Peter III. of Aragon in 1282 and was unable to recapture it. After his death at the castle of Foggia his body was divided. While his body was buried in Naples, his intestines were buried in St. Denis and his heart in the church of the Jacobins in Paris. (bio by: Lutetia)
