Baseball Hall of Famer. In a 14 year career "Sliding Billy" established himself as one of the premier offensive players of his era. He played for the Kansas City Cowboys, Philladelphia Phillies, and Boston Beaneaters in a career lasting from 1888 until 1901. During his career he played in 1,591 games, amassing 2,158 hits, a career batting average of .344 and an on base percentage of .455. He hit 40 home runs, had 736 runs batted in and scored 1,690 runs. Hamilton was a speedster and stole 912 bases, a mark that still stands as third all time. He holds the record for stolen bases in a game with seven which he accomplished on August 31, 1894. He was an outfielder who had a .926 fielding percentage. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1961.
