William BEARD (also BAIRD), son of Capt. John and Hannah Steward BAIRD. Married Esther Smalley/Smiley in 1755. Children: George, William Evans, John, James, Hannah, Esther, Elizabeth.

William BEARD/BAIRD and wife Esther lived in Path Valley, PA until 1760 or there abouts then moved to Hagerstown, MD, where he owned property til about 1780 when he moved to Brooke Co., WV (then still VA). Will is recorded in Wellsburg, West Virginia (Will Book 1, 1797-1808, Brooke County Court House, Wellsburg, WV.) It mentiones all his children and was made December 25, 1803, Date of probation is not positive, but thought to be about 1818-19.

William BEARD/BAIRD was appointed Collector of Gold and Silver by Council of Safety (Box 5, Folder 10, Hall of Records, Annapolis, MD. Revolutionary Records.)
