Sonna Linn Birnbaum, 65, of Springfield, died June 27, 2007 at her home. She was born June 13, 1942, the daughter of Fred and Mabel Langford, Downers Grove, IL. Her father, Fred Harold Langford, preceded her in death. She was a loving daughter, cherished sister, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her mother, Mabel Louise Langford of River Falls, WI; husband, Rodger; one sister, Cheryl Faith Martin (Paul) of Ellsworth, WI; one brother, Fred Harold Langford, Jr. (Annette) of Plano, TX; two daughters, Jeannette Linn Miner of Auburn (Josh Jones) and Lora Michelle Miner; two sons, Daniel Charles Miner, Jr. (Sherry) and Philip John Miner (Leigh Anne), all of Decatur; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two nieces; and two nephews. Mrs. Birnbaum graduated from Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Nursing degree (1964), and attended the Master's degree program in Nursing at the University of Illinois, Champaign. She was a Registered Nurse. During her career, she worked as an educator of nursing in ICU, CCU-ICU, Hospice, and Home Health. She completed her career as a Certified O.R. Nurse. She was a volunteer with Health First, and a delegate for AORN. Following her retirement (2001), she traveled to Germany, Italy, and Israel. She was active in her spiritual life at Cherry Hills Baptist Church in Springfield, where she held various leadership positions, faithfully led Bible Studies, and was devoted to the church's visitation. When her daughters were young, she was active in Pioneer Girls. Sonna was an avid bird=-watcher and a member of the Illinois State Audubon Society. A collector of Precious Moments, she enjoyed annual trips to Carthage, MO with her granddaughters. Family will receive friends 4:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 5, 2007 at Staab Funeral Home, 1109 S. 5th St., Springfield, IL. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 6, 2007 at Cherry Hills Baptist Church, 2125 Woodside Rd., Springfield, IL, the Reverend Jym Gregory officiating. Internment will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Cherry Hills Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society, 687 Linton Ave., Springfield, IL. Thank you to the Visiting Nurse Association of Central IL/Hospice for their excellent care of our wife and mother.
