Caro Wyche Wofford, 88, died August 30, 2007, at her home in Greenville, SC.

Mrs. Wofford, widow of Senator Thomas Albert Wofford and daughter of the late Cyril Granville and Mary Wheeler Wyche, was a lifelong resident of Greenville, SC. Mrs. Wofford graduated from Greenville High School and Randolph Macon Women's College. She received her MA degree in counseling from Clemson University. She was a teacher and guidance counselor at Greenville High School for 20 years. She touched many students during her years there. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whose joy in life came from being with her family. She devoted her life to her children and grandchildren, supporting them in their athletic events and artistic endeavors. She was known as Mema and loved by all who knew her. She was a founding member and violinist with the Greenville Symphony Orchestra, a member of the Magnolia Garden Club and the Junior League of Greenville. Her hobbies included playing the piano, knitting, sewing and growing flowers.

She is survived by her five children, Kate "Kerry" Wofford Bannister (Bill), Charles Cecil Wyche Wofford (Nancy), Marcia Wofford Barker (Charles), Pam Wofford Rouse, and Cleo Wofford Crank (Billy); 17 grandchildren, Jim Bannister (Krista), Bruce Bannister (Mary Margaret), Dr. Tom Bannister (Miller), Kate Wofford Ambrose (Smith), Claire Wofford, Jeb Wofford (Kate), Marty Barker Weekes (Hunter), Philip Barker, Michael Rouse (Holly), Hagen Rouse (Paula), Collins Rouse, Dr. Matt Carpenter, Carrie Carpenter Smith (Cam), Rebecca Carpenter, Charlie Carpenter, Jennifer Harrison (Steve) and Elizabeth Williamson (Jason); 11 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Sara Wyche Higgins and Marcia Wyche McIver; her brother, C. Thomas Wyche (Harriet); and her half-brothers, Charles Cecil Wyche (Beth) and William Spencer Wyche.

She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Wyche Burgess and three grandchildren, Thomas Lyons Barker, Jennifer Wofford Barker and Jennifer Cooksey Rouse.

The family would like to express deep gratitude to their mother's caregivers, Dianne Bishop, Pam Scarborough, Dana Fox and Brenda Lewandowski.
