Funeral services for Enid Utley Brown of McMinnville will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, at Carlton First Baptist Church. The Rev. Sid Johnson will officiate.

Visitation is scheduled for noon to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, in the chapel of Macy & Son Funeral Directors. Interment will be conducted in the Columbia Lodge No. 5 IOOF Cemetery in The Dalles.

Mrs. Brown died at Providence Newberg Hospital on Friday, Sept. 21, 2007. She was 89.

Born in Grant County, Okla., on Aug. 10, 1918, she was the daughter of Charles W. and Sarah (Asher) Biby. She grew up on land her grandparents claimed in the Land Rush.

She moved to Pueblo, Colo., with her family in 1936. She married Lewis Utley there on Jan. 7, 1939.

They settled in The Dalles. She returned to school to earn a degree in hotel management.

She moved to McMinnville in 1969, following her husband's death. She married D.B. Drown in 1984.

While living in McMinnville, she worked as a cook at the Safari Restaurant, Michelbook Country Club and the Thrifty Grill. In addition to cooking, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening, bowling and fishing.

She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in The Dalles and First Baptist Church in Carlton. She was a past member of the Moose Lodge and Rebekah Lodge.

She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, relatives said.

Mrs. Brown is survived by a son, Ronald Utley of Kalama, Wash.; three daughters, Loretta Johnson of McMinnville, Lora Szabo of Independence and Luanna Meuser of Canby; a sister Anna Leffler of Pueblo, Colo.; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and 10 brothers and sisters.
