Jean was the daughter of Mildred Irene Evans and Whitney McKinley Rankin and was born on April 17, 1920 in Portland, Multnomah, Oregon. She had one brother, John Michael Rankin who is buried at Willamette National Cemetery.


She attended the University of Portland and was a Police officer. She was artistic and enjoyed knitting and crocheting.

She married Marvin Edwin Brown on Sept 2, 1942 in Vancouver, Clark, Washington and she and Marvin made their home in Portland. They had three children: Luetta Irene Brown Rae, John Marvin Brown and Patrick Lee Brown.

Jean suffered from emphysema, and passed away November 3, 1979 in Wheeler, Tillamook, Oregon. Her body was cremated and scatter at the north fork of the Clackamas River in Clackamas County, Oregon.
